Garold Larry Ferguson, son of Harold and Martha Klemp Ferguson, was born January 23, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Aurora, Illinois. He was baptized at West Chicago, Illinois and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical & Reformed Church of rural Sumner. He attended Sumner and Tripoli Schools where he completed a special program.
Gary was employed for many years at Meighan Tiling and Excavating in Sumner, and also mowed many lawns and took care of snow removal for many people in Sumner.
A resident of the Hillcrest Home in Sumner for a brief time, Gary’s death occurred at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, following an extended illness. He was sixty-five years old and had been a longtime member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ of rural Sumner where he was currently serving on the church council. He enjoyed going to toy sales and visiting with his aunt, Gladys.
Gary is survived by one brother, LaVern (Debby) Ferguson of Moline, Illinois; two sisters, Velda (Dale) Lynch of Sumner and Velma Jean (Milton) Jones of Hawkeye; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews; one aunt, Gladys Klemp of Sumner; and four uncles in Illinois and Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bud; two nephews, Robert Lynch and Lucas Ferguson; and one great nephew, Dustin Buhr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 20, 2012, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Sumner with Rev. Robert Treichel officiating. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Union Mound Cemetery in Sumner.
